Uplift Indigenous Causes on Giving Tuesday

Creative ideas to direct your dollars

Giving Tuesday is a world-wide movement that began at a neighbourhood YMCA in New York City back in 2012. It is aimed at grassroots-driven support for worthy community causes, and is seen as a response to the explosive retail push of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Since we operate on the on the traditional and unceded territories of the Skwxwú7mesh uxwúmixw (Squamish Nation), it is part of The Watershed's committment to uplift Indigenous companies, voices and causes. In this spirit, we present a list of great ways to direct your dollars on this 'Giving Tuesday'.

RAVEN: The Watershed is a supporter of this registered charity, whose mission is to raise funds for Indigenous People's access to justice.

Indspire: A national Indigenous charity that invests in the education of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people for the long-term benefit of these individuals, their families and communities and Canada.

Urban Spirit Foundation: a charitable organization that exists to further the success and self reliance of urban Indigenous people in the Metro Vancouver Region.

Reconciliation Canada: An endeavour seated in the Skwxwu’7mesh (Squamish) Nation, Reconciliation Canada works to revitalize the relationships among Indigenous peoples and all Canadians through the development of meaningful partnerships and community outreach programs.

And a reminder that several of the Indigenous markets profiled last week are happening this month – another good way to support local Indigenous communities.
