The Village Remembers

Remembrance Day ceremony a tribute to those who served

This year's Remembrance Day ceremony took place before a packed hall, with residents, former veterans and members of local rescue services all present to pay their respects.

Former Lions Bay Mayor Brenda Broughton emceed the event, and Mayor Ken Berry also spoke.

Along with the National Anthem, the ceremony honoured First Nations, and offered words of reflection from Retired Surgeon-Commander Dr. Ross Brown. Long-time resident Ingrid Wray recited In Flanders Fields, followed by performances from Jackson Klas, who sang Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, and a small choir of local children led by Tanya Cosgrave, who sang and lit a candle for peace. Marek Sredzki, whose father was a veteran, read the list of Lions Bay Veterans, and later carried the wreath on their behalf.

Wreaths were handed out by, or on behalf of Lions Bay veterans, Lions Bay Fire Rescue, Ambulance and Search and Rescue services, Member of Parliament Patrick Weiler, and newly elected Member of the Legislative Assembly Jeremy Valeriote.
