Sally Field Movie Shoot Closes Lions Bay Store & Postal Outlet

Writer: kc dyerkc dyer

Mail room still open, large parcels redirected to Squamish

Lions Bay Store and Cafe is closed for the immediate future as the site is repurposed as a set for a Netflix movie shoot. All post office services within the store are suspended, although the mail room will remain open and deliveries will continue for the duration of the shoot.

The movie is called 'Remarkably Bright Creatures', and is adapted from the New York Times best-selling novel by Shelby Van Pelt. It is the story of a widowed janitor who befriends the octopus whose aquarium enclosure she cleans. Sally Field and Colm Meaney are among the actors expected on the Lions Bay set.

Store owner Lynne Jacobs says she's excited at the prospect of the experience, and that she expects a number of items in her store inventory will feature in the background of the movie.

While the majority of production vehicles are expected to remain in North Vancouver, parking lots at both the store, the school and above the tracks at Lions Bay Avenue are being used by Curveball Productions, the team that are shooting the feature. The current schedule made available by the production company states that the store is expected to be closed until Saturday April 5.

"The majority (of) scenes to be filmed will be contained to the property of the Lions Bay Cafe", according to a posted notice from Amy Barager, the location manager.

She further states that two scenes will be filmed on the road leading into the cafe (Centre Road) and on Bayview Road, scheduled for March 31 and April 2, respectively, with West Vancouver police on hand to assist "for safety and traffic flow."

Canada Post has notices on display in the mailroom noting that large parcels have been redirected to the Post Office at 38064 Cleveland Avenue in Squamish. Friday's Village Update states that parcels will be redirected back to Lions Bay Post Office on Monday, April 7.

Canada Post was unable to confirm this information as of Saturday morning, however. A company representative said the corporate data base has no information yet registered.

Residents with questions about the filming can direct them to Karen Jeffries at the Village Office at 604 921-9333, ext 1004 or email accounting@lionsbay.ca.
