Village Office remains open while emergency efforts continue
The previously announced departure of Public Works Director of Operations Karl Buhr has been delayed for an indefinite period.
Chief Administrative Officer Ross Blackwell says the Village is actively recruiting, but a replacement has not yet been found.
Buhr says that he plans to leave the position sometime later this year, but that the combination of the number of ongoing technical projects and work related to last month’s devastating landslide at Battani Creek means he will not be moving on just yet.
Meanwhile, the state of local emergency continues in Lions Bay. Blackwell says that the Village Office remains open, with staff able to process dog licenses and other fees.
As to efforts to mitigate the ongoing debris threat that remains in the wake of the landslide, Blackwell says that "this discussion is in process" but that a plan of action has not yet been decided upon.
He confirms that BC Hydro continues to work on the site, repairing three damaged transmission poles, but says he is unsure if this means the return of the heavy-equipment moving helicopters that were present in the days following the slide.
