Provincial Election Particulars

No advance voting polls in Lions Bay this year

It's election time again here in British Columbia, but did you know that showing up at the polls on October 19 is only one option for voters?

Eligible voters must be:

  • a Canadian citizen

  • 18 or older

  • a B.C. resident for the past six months

This year, there are a number of ways to cast your ballot, and there'll be some new tech when it comes to counting the votes as they come in, as well.

Advanced voting can take place in person or by mail. If you want to mail in your vote, you can still request a package online HERE, or you can pick one up at the district electoral office, which for residents of the West Vancouver Sea to Sky riding is at 38144 Second Ave, Squamish. Online requests end on October 13, but you can pop into the electoral offices until 4 p.m. on October 19, 2024.

If you are voting by mail, Elections BC needs to receive your completed package before 8 p.m. on October 19. More details on voting by mail can be found HERE.

Advance voting will take place October 10-13 and 15-16 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thanksgiving falls on October 14, so polls will not be open that day.

There will be no advance poll option in the Village this year, so if you decide to vote early, the closest advanced voting location will be Gleneagles Clubhouse, at 6190 Marine Drive in West Vancouver. However, eligible voters are able to vote at any advanced polling station in the province, all of which are wheelchair-accessible.

You can also cast your vote during open hours at any district electoral office in the province from now until October 19.

Final voting day is October 19, and in Lions Bay, ballots can be cast at the Village Hall, 400 Centre Road, any time from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. You will be required to bring proof of identity and address with government-issued ID.

You must be registered to vote in BC, which can be completed in person on the day of voting if you have not done so already.

More information is available through the Elections BC site.

You can read a Q&A with BC Green Party candidate Jeremy Valeriote HERE and with BC NDP candidate Jen Ford HERE. Conservative candidate Yuri Fulmer has not responded to The Watershed's request to participate.
