Today is the final day of competition at Whistler Alpine Village for this year's Invictus Games.

While the Invictus Village in Whistler will remain open and hosting visitor events to the end of the Games on Sunday, today marks the final day of outdoor competition, with remaining events to be held at the Vancouver Convention Centre and UBC Aquatics Centre over the course of the rest of the week.

While much of the international attention has focused on Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the Games have also shone a light on the contributions of the Lil’wat, Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, who are acting as official co-hosts.

These are the first Invictus Games to include winter sporting events, and Alpine Skiing and Snowboard, Nordic Skiing, Biathlon, Skeleton and Wheelchair Curling have been added the core sports of Indoor Rowing, Sitting Volleyball, Swimming, Wheelchair Rugby and Wheelchair Basketball. So far, the Games have reportedly been a massive success, with the crowd at the opening ceremonies exceeding 40,000 and sold-out attendance at many of the competitive events.

Closing ceremonies will take place on Sunday, February 16 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.

I am so pleased the Invictus Games competitors have enjoyed great weather so far…and seemingly perfect winter conditions at Whistler.

Hats off to the Indigenous co-hosts who have added their culture and traditions to all aspects of the ceremonies and the games.

Well done all!
