New arrivals, cheering our volunteers and Easter best wishes

New to Upper Oceanview Road are Alex Roberts and Sandra Petcute. They recently moved from the UK, drawn to this area because of the combination of stunning nature and tranquility. It's the perfect escape while still being close to the city.
Alex, a physician, and Sandra, an architect working in technology consulting, are joined by Roshi, the family’s energetic French shepherd. They love spending their free time outdoors, hiking and walking, and are excited to explore more of what Lions Bay has to offer as they settle in. Welcome to the neighbourhood!

New to Tidewater in Kelvin Grove are the Greenaway family. Shaun, Jenn, Madison, and Jett are joined by Gus, their happy little Mexican rescue dog. The family recently made the move from Squamish, as they found themselves commuting into the city over five days a week for the kids' sports and activities (Jett’s a soccer enthusiast, and Madison plays fast-pitch softball), as well as for work. It just made sense to move closer to everything.
After a thorough search all over West and North Vancouver, they were thrilled to have found their new home practically on the beach! They love the water, especially paddleboarding and surfing. The outdoor activities in the Sea to Sky corridor are also a big draw for them —mountain biking, skiing, and hiking top the list.
Shaun works as a real estate agent, handling both commercial and residential properties across the province. Jenn assists him with his business and also takes on the role of teacher for Madison and Jett. The children are currently in an online school program but are excited to join the local schools in September and meet more kids in the community.
In the brief time here, they have met a few neighbours, and everyone has been incredibly friendly. Welcome to the neighbourhood!

The Watershed has brought to your attention (HERE) and followed the success (HERE) of wunderkind cycling star Madeleine Pollock. “Maddi” is the granddaughter of long-time residents, former Mayor Doug Pollock and his wife Sally. Their oldest son Tim (1983 LB Community School Grad) and his wife Jeneen Sutherland are the proud parents of Maddi, now 20, and younger son West, 17. As accomplished as Maddi is, it appears that little brother is more than capable of following in her bike tracks. His potential has been recognized, and he has 2028 Olympic aspirations.
Two weeks ago, against significant competition, West won two golds and a silver medal at the prestigious 2025 Canadian National U17 and Junior Track Cycling Championships held in Milton, Ontario. The full story can be read in the North Shore News.
West has achieved success in a short time, and at a young age. Congratulations on his accomplishments to date, and we will be watching his progress as his future unfolds.

Lions Bay has a tradition of volunteer resident involvement that dates back to our incorporation. Next week is Volunteer Week. The Village has many volunteers and each one is appreciated for their contribution. Thank you. Today we take a moment to recognize our emergency services, and those resident volunteers who quietly serve us.
Lions Bay Fire & Rescue

Led by resident Chief Barret Germscheid, LBFR has personnel numbering in the high 20s at any given moment, but only nine active members are residents. There are also two now non-active resident members who continue to serve by providing backroom support to the unit. If you have aspirations to join or just want to have a chat about it, have a look HERE.
Lions Bay Search and Rescue

LBSAR has about 35 members, but only Ed Langford and my neighbour Sam Sullivan live in the Village, although Martin Colwell, ex-resident and now living in Caulfield is close enough to be called a resident. A number of ex-residents continue to stay involved. Both Ed and Martin have been involved in LBSAR for over 40 years. Wow! While a team member, Ed is also an operational Search Manager and I am sure with all of his experience he gets drawn into a myriad of unofficial roles and capacities. Sam has been with the team for five years, as have Daphne and Linnea. They are the ones you will most likely see when you are found or assisted. While LBSAR’s web site advises they are currently not looking for new members, if the challenging work is of interest to you go HERE.
Emergency Support Services

Led by Director Mary Brown, Emergency Support Services (ESS) has five members, all residents. They are Mary, Vanessa Wright, Roel Coert, former Mayor Douglas Miller, and myself. The team is always looking for additional members. If you would like to explore the opportunity, contact the Director at MPBrown@LionsBay.ca
We are fortunate to have outstanding local leadership of our emergency services, and commitment to the Village by our emergency professionals whose ranks include the mentioned resident volunteers.
The Easter long week end is upon us. It comes at such a hopeful time of year, and that optimism is a great feeling to share. Mary and I are lucky our oldest son and his family live down the street from us, and our youngest son and his family live in North Vancouver. They are coming to visit us this weekend. Before dinner, we will FaceTime with our middle son and his family, who live in Singapore. I’ve long ago started counting my blessings at night, not sheep. Easter is a great time to remind ourselves how thankful we are for our most loved ones and to tell them how much we appreciate them. All the best to everyone,
