Fundraiser a Flaming Success

Fun in the sun on Firefighter's Day

The sun shone, the water was warm and village residents arrived in droves to support Lions Bay Fire Rescue (LBFR)'s biggest fundraiser of the year last Saturday.

The event kicked off at 2 p.m. and crowds continued to grow throughout the afternoon and evening.

In addition to all the built-in beach activities, attendees were treated to a bouncy slide in the form of a giant fire truck, fire fighter-led truck rides and a silent auction. There was popcorn and sno-cones available for purchase, plus a barbecue and beer garden.

Fire Captain Mattie Guildenhuys was quick to express her gratitude. "Everyone in LBFR wishes to thank the whole community for coming to our event, generously donating, and spending time with us," she said. "There is no better feeling than to know we are appreciated for the work we put in, and I can say for certain that we feel it today."

All proceeds from the day go to the volunteer LBFR service to fund training, development and new life saving equipment.
