Canadian options are among the top quality pet foods on the market today, according to Rene Naudé, manager of Village Pet Food & Supplies at Caulfeild Village Shopping Centre in West Vancouver.

Along with owner Jimmy Kim, Naudé is a long-time fixture at Village Pets. Also a dog owner, he sports decades worth of knowledge when you need something special for your furry family member.

Naudé says that many of the suppliers at his store are letting their Canadian roots shine, and are welcoming the waves of new customers who are taking a stand against U.S. tariff bullying by switching to Canadian-made products.

In fact, some Canadian manufacturers are offering a free bag after ten purchases and are accepting loyalty cards from customers switching from other brands. One of these companies is Canadian Naturals, a company that has operated out of Abbotsford for more than 50 years. Naudé says that when switching, they'll honour up to five bags from a competitor's card.

Another local favourite is Yappetizers, a pet treat company in Richmond that actually started right here in Lions Bay. (Village Building Official Dave Butler is the proud papa of company founder Sean Butler, and can usually be found with a treat or two in his pocket!)

The store offers many Canadian brands including:

For other locally-made choices, stop by Village Pet Food and check out their selection.

Village Pet Food & Supplies and RC Pets (another Canadian company) sponsor our

monthly Coastal Canine column. Every month, the featured canine gets to pick out

a new collar and leash, courtesy of these generous sponsors.

Yes! We started going to Village Pet Foods & Supplies back in 1990! They are fantastic and deserving of our local support. Hey proud papa Dave, so great to hear about Sean’s pet treat business Yappetizers.
