Lions Bay Arts supports Squamish Food Bank

The generosity of local artists and residents is having a real-world impact with a donation from the Lions Bay Arts society to the Squamish Food Bank.
For the past 10 years, Lions Bay Arts has held a Christmas Fair to showcase local artists in the community. The society also takes the opportunity to raise funds for deserving local charities through calendar sales and other endeavours.
In February this year, the society announced the results of their winter fundraising campaign, donating $2,380 to the Squamish Food Bank.
Behind this contribution was the work of many artists, including Leslie Nolin, who hand-made swag wreaths and donated the entire proceeds to the Food Bank. Young artist Tess Wregglesworth also donated all the proceeds of her ornament sales, and all donations were matched by Lions Bay Arts.
"This is the third year we have given to Squamish Food Bank," said Arts society president Ute Philips. "For the first two years we sold our village banners at the Christmas Fair and Lions Bay Arts matched the contributions."
Philips noted that the 2024 total was double the amount given in the past, mostly as a result of Nolin's holiday swag wreaths.
Lions Bay Arts is a member of the Sea to Sky Arts Council, which includes art councils from Bowen Island, Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton. According to Philips, this alliance formed about 10 years ago as a way to share experiences and information common to artists and artisans along the Sea to Sky corridor.
She said that Lions Bay Arts recognized that Christmas is a particularly difficult time for many families, so chose the Squamish Food Bank as an appropriate recipient.
